Valentin Alek Dediu
Project Coordinator,
Dr. Alek Dediu coordinates the research group Magnetic Nanostructures for Spintronics and Nanomedicine at CNR-ISMN-Bologna. His group started off with pioneering work on the use of organic semiconductors in spintronics, effectively giving birth to organic spintronics. Since then the group has maintained a leading role in the fabrication of devices based on spin transport in organic semiconductors (6 Nature publications since 2009). A second pioneering idea was that of using nanomagnetic materials in scaffolds for bone tissue regeneration. The outcome had an impact on the understanding of bone regeneration in the presence of magnetic materials under the application of a magnetic field, on the production of novel magnetic materials such as magnetic hydroxylapatite and on the magnetization of live cells and on their manipulation with a magnetic field and with magnetic scaffolds.
