Prof. Matteo Santin
Principal Investigator,
Professor of Tissue Regeneration and leads both the BrightSTAR Group and Brighton Centre for Regenerative Medicine. Professor Santin has 25 years of experience in the field of biomaterials and tissue engineering; he has a PhD in Biomaterials from the University of Naples and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Brighton and was awarded the Jean-Leray Award 2005 by the European Society for Biomaterials, a society of which he is currently president.
Prof Santin is also vice-chair of the ETP on Nanomedicine, Regenerative Medicine Working Group. He is a member of various scientific advisory groups in the UK and across Europe. He is the founder and director of two start up companies with a mission in biomaterials for biomedical applications and pre-clinical handling of cells, Brighton Wound Care Ltd and Tissue Click Ltd.
He has published over 70 papers and unveiled for the first time the biochemical and cellular mechanisms of inflammatory response to silk fibroin, new cellular mechanisms leading to the failure of cardiovascular stents and the tissue regeneration potential of novel soybean-based biomaterials and biomimetic dendrons.
